Kramer, Cantankerous and Crumbling
"Kramer's racist tirade" simply revealed the lack of intelligence and class modern day comics possess. It seems today unless you are vile and cursing every other word you are not platformed in Hollywoood. Creativity and ingenuity apparently was nowhere to be found when Kramer needed a comeback for his heckler. A guy with as little etiquette as him should simply stick to reading scripts and keep his thoughts to himself.
Undoubtedly Michael Richards, "Kramer" on Seinfield, has some unfinished personal business to attend to before he graces (or shall we say disgraces) a platform again. Evidently the guy has a bone to pick with African Americans. It is a pity when people stereotype and blanket an entire people group just because a few bad experiences. Moreover an entertainer in Hollywood should know better than to cut his own throat by such racial slurs.
Nevertheless what's inside of you is bound to surface and come out eventually. When you erect walls relationally toward anybody, you always must remember the walls behind which you hide may one day come tumbling down upon you. This is why Jesus taught us to love and pray for our enemies. Those who you hate and alienate are bound to perpetuate your internal pain. Forgive and live!
Cantankerous Kramer certainly exploded in anger as he performed at a famous L.A. comedy club last Friday, hurling racial epithets that left the crowd gasping. Richards appeared onstage at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. Kyle Doss, an African-American, told TMZ he and some friends were in the cheap seats and he was playfully heckling Richards when suddenly, the comedian lost it.
The crowd was visibly and audibly confused and upset by the vile remarks Richards made. Richards showed no remorse saying, "They're going to arrest me for calling a black man a nigger."
Ironically the comic didn't relieve his audience of any tension and stress they came with to the Comedy Club. He only further added his own tensions pertaining to race.
It doesn't seem like Mr. Richards will be warmly welcomed in Hollywood hereafter. Nevertheless as a minister and life coach, I believe every single soul is within reach of redemption and transformation. The Creator of the Universe loves everybody, even rude, boisterous washed up comedians.
Beyond the salvation of his soul however Mr. Richards might consider a few helpful words of advice to salvage what is left of his career and turn his self-made mess into something to generate media coverage. Here are some kind suggestions for you Kramer:
- Do a movie with a black actor like Chris Tucker or Eddie Murphy who can talk trash right back at you.
- Go live in Africa for a year where you can do humanitarian work to cleanse your soul of hate and learn to love.
- Go on a cruise throughout the Caribbean to learn how to chill out a bit.
- Donate a sizeable sum of money to an African American charity to show repentance and do restitution for your slanderous remarks.
- Work in the inner-cities with African American underprivileged children and get a heart.
As long as you hate, you'll never be great. It's never too late to change.
