Endless Summer Surf Camp
Slowly, reluctantly, a bed-head emerges from the warm confines of a sleeping bag, followed by an arm, then a body. Eventually there are four or five of us milling about, sleepy-eyed, blinking away the night. One of us is munching away on Raisin Bran, the staple of his morning breakfasts, with the thousand-mile stare of a man sleep-deprived. Another is finding comfort in his coffee, and well, he should, considering he woke the surf camp staff at 6 a.m. to get it. When we find out that that only those with their own equipment can hit the water, we are disappointed, but understand the liability issues. So we are reduced to spectators, watching from the bluffs above the beach. The sunrise has reached the far horizon now, where ocean is beginning to distinguish itself from the sky. Down below, we see several lone surfers paddling into the morning gray, looking for that first set.

An Introduction to Wet Suits
Designed initially for scuba divers and then popularized by surfers, the wet suit has evolved from a simple layer of protection from the wet and cold into a "system" that warms, protects and aids the swimmer, surfer or deep sea diver that uses them.

Learning to Surf with Corky Carroll
It was an August Monday morning, and as I nervously walked onto Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach, California, I was greeted by a bitter chill and a slight drizzle. It was gray and cold. So cold, that I couldn't understand why anyone would want to get into an even chillier water in an attempt to surf. But surfing isn't about lazy warm afternoons or playing in the water. It's about style and technique. It's about love, something I would soon learn.

How to tips for surfing beginners!
Surfboards are made to float on the water. They have a natural center of gravity. If you were to lay any surfboard in a swimming pool, it would come to rest the same way every time. This is what we want to do when you lay on a surf board. That is to have the board remain in the same relation to the water as it was without your weight on it, just a bit lower in the water. A good tip is to find this balance point and lay on your board then make, a mark right at your chin. This is a spot is best made with a bit of wax or a magic marker. It is a reference point that enables you to put your chin on the same spot every time so the board will react to your weight the same way every time.

A Surfing Lesson
I've never surfed in my life. Sometimes people tell me I look like a surfer, but never once have I been on a board out in the water. It fascinates me though. It was about a year ago that I was standi...

A Guide to Surfing Wet Suits
Surfing wetsuits are a breed unto themselves. To begin with, there are cool, surfer-dude designations used to describe the different styles of surfing wet suits. The first is the spring suit which has short legs and short arms and is used to keep the upper body warm and has a thickness of materials of about 2mm.

A Look at Wet Suits for Kids
Other than youth wet suits that contain built-in flotation devices -- or the odd, extremely expensive wet suit made for that tiny scuba diver or mini-athlete in the family -- these swimsuits for kids are mostly about style.

Skateboarding For Beginners
Over the last couple of weeks I've been trying to do at least an hour of skateboarding after work each day. The road outside is smooth and flat, very good for practicing flatland stuff. The kid two doors down from me, Jake, joins in sometimes too, and as he's about the same level we get on well and push each other to do better.

Skate Bored?
Though skateboards were around in the early 50's and 60's and actually very widely used back then they weren't well made and so eventually died out. The early ones were basically just milk crates with roller skate wheels and maybe a handle. More like a scooter.
